The vision of BRI is to ensure sustenance
of benefits for the pulp and fibre business of the Group.
Summarily, BRI is pursuing a two pronged
strategy to meet the market challenges:
Process innovation
Modification of existing processes in
order to make them more environment friendly and cost-effective,
while maintaining / improving quality.
Product innovation
Developing an altogether new environment friendly fibre of
superior strength without compromising any merits.
Among the major achievements that deserve
mention are:
The development of a process for the
manufacture of dissolving grade pulp from bamboo, for
the first time in the world.
Zinc has remained an indispensable
input to VSF process since 1911 and largely disposed with
the effluent. This is extremely toxic and harmful to the
environment. BRI, has developed a process to produce the
world's only heavy metal free viscose. Thus making Birla
Cellulose (made in India) the world's only Zinc Free Viscose.
BRI also developed
and perfected the process of rayon grade pulp manufacture
from eucalyptus and other tropical hardwoods. This effort
won BRI a world wide acclaim and the prestigious Gohel
Award in 1970.
